Conducted musical identity

Conducted musical identity

Creating a new visual identity through motion and sound.

London Symphony Orchestra recently teamed up with The Partners to create a fresh new visual identity that used motion capture to translate the distinctive movements of famed conductor Sir Simon Rattle into a series of animations and graphic forms. The move was created to highlight the orchestra's history and dynamic performances that set it apart from other orchestras across the UK. The work maintains the 'conductor's baton' logo done by The Partners in 2004 with a fresh new approach to their visual language.

The motion capture demanded a collaboration with the University of Portsmouth and Vicon Motion Systems, capturing Rattle using a circle of 12 cameras and a modified baton, tracking his movements through Elgar's variations on an Original Theme, 'Enigma'.
